Faculty of Computing and informatics-FCI has hosted a team from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations. These are here to train students and staff on Innovation uptake.

Mr Mugabe Godfrey headed the team that comprised of the following.

Madam Kiconco Pauline from the department of Science, Technology and Innovation infrastructure development.

Mr Patrick Mugisha and Mr.Raymond Natukunda: both from the innovation and Intellectual property department.

Mr Kimera Richard the coordinator said that the faculty of computing and informatics has been working with the Ministry to identify avenues in which final year research projects can be taken to the next level through collaborations with the public and private sectors.

This will also be part of their long term plan to identify final year research projects that can be supported for development and implementation. The faculty hopes to create long-lasting solutions that will impact community development.

Mr Mugisha Patrick informed the Dean  of  FCI, Dr Evarist Nabaasa that the students’ program is to train them more about transforming their projects to the practical world solutions thus should focus on challenges facing Ugandans  so as to conquer the market of innovations

The main purpose of the visit was to guide students on:

  • intellectual-property Rights
  • Pick students and staff innovations for commercialisation
  • Guide students and staff on the intellectual-property rights about innovations in Uganda.

He further informed the Dean Dr Evarist that the Ministry was still waiting for the response about the land allocation for the construction of  the Innovation and Technology Hub, this will be fully funded by the government of Uganda.

Dr Evarist in his welcoming remarks said the faculty was humbled by their visit and that MUST being Science and Technology  they should feel free to come through anytime

He also informed the team from the ministry that the VC table the matter of the site /land for the Hub development to the university council and soon they will get back to them. He welcomed them to the faculty and pledge full support as the Dean.
