Message from the Faculty Deputy Dean

In line with MUST’s focus on science and technology, through our world class teaching and research, the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) aspires to build professionals that can deliver innovative ICT-based solutions to enhance the achievement of sustainable development and social transformation in Uganda and beyond.

We believe that an investment in computing and informatics education and research has a transformational impact on not only the wellbeing of individuals, but also on the national economic development. Computing and informatics are key priority areas of focus in Uganda’s current National Development Plan. Ugandan students enrolling into our undergraduate programmes can benefit from the students’ loan scheme from the government.

Our problem-based teaching, supplemented with field internships has a unique global footprint through our international students that come from various countries including Rwanda, Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Burundi to experience life-changing learning experience at FCI. Our vibrant faculty members are leaders and innovators in computing and informatics who are committed to inspire students’ success at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The employability of students in various sectors such as banking, health, and education is high.

Our research has a multidisciplinary significant reach. Through ground breaking research and innovations, we apply creativity to forge technological and visionary solutions that can address complex development challenges.

These include: the SPIDER-funded e-learning technology that enhances teaching and learning in the otherwise disadvantaged schools in Nakivale refugee settlement; the BMBF-funded multimedia technology that supports maternal and child health among rural illiterate women in southwestern Uganda, and the NIH-funded real-time monitoring technologies that support tuberculosis medication adherence in Mbarara.

Collaborating with a great team of researchers and mentors from renown Universities such as Harvard University, Yale University, and Humboldt University, we have proved that working together is success.

Thank you for choosing FCI, MUST. You will be glad you did!

May God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you.
