About the department of Information Technology

The department of Information Technology was formed in 2010 with focus on both theoretical and practical aspects and advancements in technology. The key areas of research in the department emanate from Information Communication Technology for development (ICT4D) or development Informatics.

The department offers an Undergraduate course in Information technology leading to a Bachelors degree. The course was started in 2006 aiming at training students to become ICT professionals in any field. The course focuses on the breadth of understanding needed to communicate between technical experts and users, thus assisting the latter to use information technology more effectively.

It aims at providing graduates with the intellectual tools and practical experience to enable them to act as bridges between computers and computer users.

IT is a growing field with excellent career prospects in a variety of environments, including banks, government, research, private sector, agriculture, healthcare, energy and business. Master of Science in Information Systems (MSc. IS)

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MIS program) offers excitement and challenges for the information age. This program focuses on applying information technology to improve the performance of people in organization. It mainly deals with the management of information systems with focus on a number of areas such as business process management systems, computer security, systems modeling and data management. Bachelors of Information Technology

Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is hosted in the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Computing and Informatics Sciences, MUST. The program is a three (3) year full time study program, with each year having two semesters. It is a Day program and a student is allowed a maximum of five (5) years to complete this Program.
