The Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) is one the faculties at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. FCI is an innovative and market-oriented unit, pursuing inquiry, discovery and application through excellence in teaching and learning, value-added research, cutting edge community outreach and vibrant student life. The year 2016 was a phenomenal one registering historical invent of the University Council upgrading us from an Institute to a faculty level. Similarly the year 2017 is one of the landmarks in that, the start of construction of FCI block at Kihumuro Campus was commissioned, this faculty building is planned to be ready for use by end of August 2019.

The current building and the one under construction will provide the necessary infrastructure for the largest Center of Excellence in Computing and ICT Training, Research and Consultancy services in the whole of western Uganda and Uganda at large. The Faculty is committed to establishing and sustaining high academic and research standards through collaborations with other Institutions across the globe. FCI is strategic and has very high potential of attracting a lot of positive attention in terms of collaboration and partnerships from Universities, Private Sector, and Government among others.

The faculty continues to achieve successes, developments and challenges like in other universities across the globe. FCI is always committed to excellent teaching, staff development, research, consultancy and Community engagement among others.

With thanks, I acknowledge the support FCI has received and enjoyed over time from our development partners: Nuffic, SIDA, DAAD, Government of Uganda, MIT-SANA, Google, Cisco Systems, UNFPA, ADB, AuthorAid, RENU, Commonwealth, to mention but a few. I would also like to thank the Mbarara University of Science and Technology Management in a special way for all the support and cooperation. A lot would not have been achieved without the support of FCI staff, FCI students and the general public. In a special I would like to extend special thanks to the whole of the FCI management team for spearheading this faculty to great heights. Thank you all for your support.
